What Coursework Can I Expect?
Pennsylvania EMT training courses can be broken down into two different types: Basic level training and Intermediate-Advanced training. Most basic level courses consist of 100 hours of coursework and prepare the individual for all of the essential functions of an EMT. An Intermediate course will usually require 1000 credit hours for completion and include all material covered in a Basic course plus additional curriculum and hands-on practice. The Intermediate-Advanced courses in Pennsylvania are also designed to prepare the student to continue on to become a Paramedic.
Taking Online EMT Classes
While there are EMT classes available in an online format, people should be aware that an important part of any formal EMT training program will include hands-on practice in a medical facility or training environment. Online classes are best used to supplement or accompany training done in-person. Receiving training in a physical environment allows the student to practice the skills they are being taught and handle the medical equipment required of an emergency medical technician.
